Wondering Out Loud
If all those people and all that energy being exerted in EDSA and Ayala today were instead diverted to helping dig out the landslide victims in Leyte, I bet the rescue operations will be a lot faster and there’ll be more survivors.

Cheesy quote of the day, from a Sidney Sheldon novel: "IF: a two-letter word for futility."
Gloria needs to go. She squandered her chance to be a good president by surrounding herself with thugs, thieves, murderers, and sycophants, and allowing her coterie of baboons to run amuck. Sayang.
There must be something in the water at Malacañang that turns most people evil. This is not the Gloria I remember when she was just another mid-level personality at the UP School of Economics.

This is over-simplification. Almost word for word it sounds the same as what was said about Marcos and Erap.
It's easy for different groups to say "Kick her out!" What these groups can't agree on is, "Who's going to replace her?" Erap? Noli? Hello?!
Hay naku. Makapag-Nigeria na lang nga. Etchos.

Ehehe. Well, Marcos was charismatic, strong-willed, and blessed with a razor-sharp legal mind, so he did have the potential to be a good president. I'm not so sure Erap - washed-up, womanizing, action-hero drunk that he was - had that same potential. But you're right, though... all three of them blew it, because all three of them abused the power of the office.
Seems like such is the curse of Malacañang - almost all who occupy it morph into trapos, no matter how they start out in office.
I really thought that a GMA presidency had great promise, and I am really surprised at the kind of president she turned out to be. She is (was?) a personal and professional friend of my mom and aunt, going back to the early 80s, so the two of them have a better insight into GMA the person and GMA the politician than most. And yeah, both of them agree... sayang talaga.
As far as who should replace her, yes, that is a valid practical question. And you are probably correct that there is nobody on the national stage who would make a good replacement right now. Definitely not Erap. Ugh.
Pero ultimately? The question of who would make a suitable replacement is irrelevant to the question of whether GMA herself is a good president.

That's the difference between the ideal and the practical. The ideal is obsessing with one side of the equation: "Is GMA a good president or not?" The practical is worried about the other side of the equation: "If not GMA, then who?"
There will never be a perfect president. Ultimately history will judge her if she's able to pull off her recent stunts.
